Japanese Log 01
こんいちわ、「DILLON」です。 (I don’t know how to type Katakana yet, lol)
I’m a bit into a month and a half of Duolingo and it’s starting to become a little annoying, but I can’t say it taught me nothing. This is contrary to what most people say on the internet about Duolingo as a language learning tool. I know it’s not a lot, but I can already recognize simple kanji (e.g., 何、今、寿司、行く) that are used pretty frequently.

Three Waves Later: Happy Birthday to My Sourdough Starter
Today is the birthday of my sourdough starter, Melbert. What kind of name is that? I’m not sure.
Around this time a year ago (probably a bit earlier, as I tend to be late to the party) most of my bubble of the internet seemed to be obsessed with baking bread. I quite like the idea of creating something so awesome from so little. But finding flour was a struggle, and yeast was basically nonexistent.

HA scraping of Binance order book deltas
Based on the current Binance API, there is no way to retrieve historical orderbook deltas, or even historical order books at all. Because of this, I’m taking extra care to make sure I have a high availability setup for collecting orderbook deltas.
There’s two ways this could go, and it’s not particularly clear from the API:
When you open two websocket clients, you get different order book partials When you open two websocket clients, you get the same order book partials.

Life Is Not So Great -- A Haiku
In grade school they tell you about the structure of a Haiku. It’s fun to fit something within the structure, but my teacher at the time told me it was supposed to evoke some particular emotion. Child Dillon was very confused. But if this doesn’t sum up the emotions of my life, nothing else will.
My nose, congested.
The 401 is as well.
Life is not so great.
Actual original content, by me, when driving with my partner to their parents’ place in Cornwall ON.

Cast Iron Pan Pizza
Today I made cast iron pan pizza, recipe is thanks to Adam Ragusea. What I love most about Adam Ragusea’s videos is the relative lack of precise measurements. Rather, he focuses on ballpark measurements and tells you different cues you can use to determine if you’re in the right spot (more or less).
I had originally wanted to make the pan pizza from Ethan Chlebowski, but I’m not bougie enough to use 8g of yeast.
